Anne Palmer is a member of the Kingston Symphony where she plays flute and piccolo. She has played in the pit orchestras for numerous musicals including the Kinsmen productions of Beauty and the Beast and The Wizard of Oz. She has performed and been recorded with the Cantabile Choirs of Kingston and the Kingston Chamber Choir and she has performed as soloist with the Eastern Ontario Concert Orchestra (now Quinte Symphony) and Orchestra Kingston.

At the Thousand Islands Playhouse in Gananoque, Anne played flute, piccolo and alto flute for the musical, “You Are Here” in the Fall of 2016 and in the summer of 2019 she played flute and piccolo for the musical “Anne of Green Gables”.

Anne is an accomplished flute teacher who has been teaching flute from her home studio for more than 25 years. Her students play as members of the Kingston Youth Orchestra, frequently win awards at the Kiwanis Music Festival and many have gone on to study music at the university level. From 1990 to 2016, Anne was employed by the Limestone Board of Education Partnership Music Program to teach the flute to interested students at the intermediate level.

In 2001, Anne founded and has since directed the adult community flute choir, Flutissimo. Flutissimo performs at various venues throughout Kingston including an annual concert in the spring.

Anne has written many arrangements and transcriptions for Flutissimo and for her student ensembles.

Anne Palmer is married to trombonist and award-winning composer, John Palmer. Music has been central in her own family. Her son, Jim, is a clarinetist and completed his Ph.D. in music theory at UBC and is now the music department coordinator and an instructor of music theory at Douglas College in Vancouver. Her daughter, Jen, flutist and soprano, is now a psychiatrist in Ottawa. Anne also loves the outdoors and is learning to play the harp.
